Q1:Summative Blog post one: Collaborate and Art-making skills

In class we were assigned to build a slab letter with a partner. I found that working with a partner was beneficial for improving my technique and making the project look better. When we first started building our G slab letter we had to first plan it. When we were planning it we had to choose the right dimensions in order for our G to stand up with-out breaking. Collaborating with my partner in this area helped me improve on how I plan my projects in order to successfully make them stand up. Next we worked on making a slab, cutting them into different sized rectangles/squares and putting them together. This part was hard and working with my part we connected the pieces more efficiently than we would have done alone. Also I had never really built anything this complex as this, but with the help off my partner we figured it out. Also we had to measure our slabs so it would fit perfectly. From our collaboration I have learned how important it is to measure.

The area of improvement in the slab letter G was expanding on my previous knowledge of slab-building. Before I had only build a mug out of slab, which was not as difficult as building a G. The slab mug only had one connection I had to make. Building the slab letter had many more pieces which I had to measure in order to fit them together perfectly. These complex pieces improved my knowledge of how to build more complex, bigger, 3-d art.  Another thing I improved on was making sturdier connections. Each time someone builds in pottery you have to focus on sturdy connections. Previously last year I had not connected some pieces together as well and they cracked. Building this slab letter G has really given me time to slow down and think about how to make sturdier connections.

So overall, due to collaborating with my partner and expanding my skills, I have now increased my knowledge and technique in slab making. And hopefully in the future I can expand my knowledge more, and take this slab building technique and apply it with other techniques and with future art projects.
